I signed up for the residential solar program in June 2016, and with no notice or warning, I was switched to another vendor, TriEagle Energy, in December 2016. The representatives at MP2 had no information for me as to why I was switched or why I was not contacted. There's no reason to use this company, when a more reputable company can provide the same rates.
First class service and experience. They were very professional and knowledgeable.
Electrons worked as promised. Would definitely order electrons from them again!
No issues, clear and simple billing, and responsive to emails. Nice to have true net metering in Houston!
Yvonne was simply the most amazing and informed customer servicevity ecti I have ever had from a retail energy provider EVER!! She knew every answer in deep detail, advised with objectivity and integrity and mastery of the numbers and comparative landscape and thoroughly engendered confidence with the consumer interface that is so rare. Oh...and kindness and competence is still the best blend for growing a business!
Best energy provider in Texas! Stop using brokers. Just call MP2 and have them lock you in for as long as possible. Their rates and service are second-to-none...and you don't have to waste time shopping. Set it, and forget it!!!
Way to costly! Our electric bills have been about 50% more than other electric providers. It also appears that they will not be crediting back our termination fee from Trieagle, who were much less expensive. I'll keep you posted.
Tried to reach to customer service using the contact number from their website. Never get through. No one answer the phone and I tried over 10 times to both their CS numbers. Really disappointed for this type of service.
Forced to use this company with my solar panels for 4 years. For the last 6 months they have double charged me for what my solar panels produced. They refused to correct it. Luckily green mountain energy now offers a solar plan!
Great Company with excellent customer service.
I've been very pleased with my residential service. My bills are lower than they've ever been and the service has been 5-star. I'd recommend to anyone tired of their current provider.
Excellent customer service and a great energy rate.
I Was with a Major supplier for 25 years was getting tired of runaway monthly bills, switched and literally cut my bill in half, and no more runaway bills after 5 years
MP2 Energy’s EV Free Charging Plan has been excellent for us and we regret not changing over sooner. We charge two EVs during the free window and our power bill has dropped significantly from our previous provider. Highly recommend!
Wonderful company! Awesome prices and great customer service!
decided to overcharge our company +$900 will never use them again
If you plan on doing net metering (solar system plan) then MP2 is NOT the place. They wipe your extra solar credits once a year.
Bad experience. Call TXU, Greeen Mountain or Reliant. You will thank me later
Top notch service. Look, most energy retailers make it as difficult and confusing as possible. The team at MP2 makes it very easy to understand what you're getting and what it cost. They're also very good at challenging situations such as a customer that has multiple meters with multiple retailers and the contracts have different end dates. They can really 'clean up' situations like that and greatly simpify things. Nobody is better at power retailing than there guys.
Mp2 Energy is awesome, its the TDU charge that makes its adds up, for example, my bill from Mp2 Energy was $3.98 cents. but with the TDU charge, it went to $21.00.
MP2 Residential has the best electricity rates and customer service of any other similar company out there. Their contracts don't have early termination fees making them more flexible than anything else around, too. I have been a customer of MP2 for several years with no issues at all. I would highly recommend MP2 Residential to everyone.
Poor rude customer service. There was confusion about the renewal of their contract and because of that they kept my solar panels credits and refused to credit me for a whole year . My bill tripled. Am still for the solar panels. That's stealing. Went back to Green Mountain.
I have not received buyback credit for the excess from our rooftop solar 3 years. They said my contract expired and they stopped paying me for the excess we fed into the grid. I called many times and was always put on hold, transferred, dropped. Lost a few thousand dollars. Go elsewhere for your solar buyback. I am giving them one star because that is the lowest allowed. I would like to give them a negative 2000 for the amount we lost.
Absolutely great customer service. Knowledgeable, quick hold times and put me with the right people to answer ALL of my questions. My reps name was Ivonne and did a fantastic job. One phone call with the right person made my day! I deal with energy companies all of the US and I was simply impressed with the level of knowledge and specific information I could get to handle my concerns. Great fixed rates especially the solar buy back and recommend them to anyone trying to sort thru the hordes of energy companies out there. Thank you MP2!
Ivonne is MP2 Energy Customer Care was absolutely awesome! She really represents MP2 well. I highly appreciated her patience and care. I found this company's electric rates to be very competitive and the customer service experience I experienced with Ivonne was fantastic! Also the phone was picked up on the first ring, no wait time! Unheard of customer service!!! Ivonne should be promoted and/or given a raise, if the higher ups are monitoring these reviews! Thanks, MP2 Energy!
Started off a little rocky with this company. I never received any notice from green energy exchange that they were shutting down and transferring their customers to MP2. I had not received any notice from MP2 either. So I was a bit scared after not having an electric bill for 2 months. Ivonne took my call and was very patient and helpful, she helped me find my account and pay my bill. I was not charged any late charges despite not having paid in 2 months. I believe they will start charging late charges after July 1st though if you have not paid your bill yet (just me going off of my statement) my bill was not terribly high either for these hot summer months in Texas. The total in the picture is for 2 months of energy. Im grateful that this experience was not as bad as I expected it to be, and I want to thank Ivonne for being so helpful. Y’all better give her a raise xD
This company acquired the great energy company I have a contract with and so far the transition has been awful and customer service couldn't even be bothered to check whether my account looked fine before undoing work I'd put in through resetting my password and giving me instructions I'd already completed prior. Didn't transfer my autopay and didn't provide clear steps to get started. Sincerely unhappy with how unclear everything is and how terribly slow and buggy their site is too! You guys really need to do better! This isn't okay and it's really frustrating!! :(
My last energy provider sign me up for MP2 Energy even though I had already signed up with another provider. I was charged 20 dollars for 3 days of electricity with a company that I never signed up with.
I was 'transferred' to this electricity provider about 6 weeks ago and it's been awful since the beginning. I couldn't get my autopay setup because of system errors, then got notices that I was being charged late fees (even though I figured out how to do auto pay on my own but they didn't draft the money from my account), am now being charged almost double my kw/hr rate (even though it was communicated my rate would remain consistent), and when new charges showed up on my bill this month I've tried calling every number listed for customer service - with NO answer. I've emailed their customer support - with NO answer. This company is an absolute joke and only got lucky to have acquired an already existing company with customers...without that I'm not sure how anyone would ever sign up for new service (although something tells me their sales department is working just fine). STAY AWAY!!!
Terrible company, terrible customer service. They bought my previous electric company and never notified us. We started getting emails from this company saying we haven't paid our bill. Well, we never heard of you or received a bill. Turns out they bought our electric from Green Energy Exchange, and they won't give me access to the account because they don't have my name on the account. Hmm, interesting... Not really. If you can, avoid this company like the plague.
Try to call customer service regarding my bill nobody answer left message to call me back no one call, today I called put me on hold for 3 minutes the line disconnected.
I have been with mp energy for 2 years now and have no problems at all. We only lost power once in all that time. , we started at .085 per kW. And now up to .098 kW. The only complaint I have is not being told of the hike Still the best I have worked in my 66 years
Very poor customer service!! No one ever answers even when we want to call to pay the bill! A representative never answers to put you on hold!! They just put you straight to hold for a very long time!
I had them while in my apartment and it was extremely easy to set up and end when I needed to. When I called I didn't have talk to a robot to get things done, but was greeted by their extremely nice customer service team! The day I was moving out of my apartment kept changing, and they were so accommodating when I needed to keep changing it. I had autopay set up with them, and never had any issues. (Also they were one of the cheapest quotes I received from around the area). If I moved into an area where I could choose my electric provider again it will definitely be with them! I don't get why everyone is saying they were difficult, because honestly this is one of the best customer service places around. You can tell they don't seem to outsource it so people aren't just reading a screen but actually understand what they are talking about and are able to solve issues instead of just forward you around call centers.
I still been paying compared to other of our family and friends who have solar panel. They pay nothing even they sometimes get a refund so what is going wrong here is it the electric company I am using????
POS service. Cut power with no notice whatsoever even though bills have been paid diligently and on time.
Terrible service! MP2 don’t answer their phones.. and when they answered, I was on hold for 25mins and then someone hung the phone up on me.. Once I got a hold of a customer representative and asked if they had a local office that I could visit for customer service, she said yeah but told me yes they have an office but not for customer service... It’s not a good company in my opinion..
Wow what a racket, they offer you a low rate then up the delivery charge to compensate for the low rate. In other words we want x amount of money from you every month so we'll get it any way we can. Of course we won't tell you how until you've signed a contract, we'll just say we don't know that it varies. Or it's out of our hands it's the trucking industry or covid or?? Yet my neighbor with a different energy company doesn't have that problem.
I had them for only a few months and it was great! Never had any issues, and whenever I called in they were always helpful and friendly. All seemed very knowledgeable!
I defaulted to using this electric company after they bought out my old company. I have had various problems regarding billing and transferring service from one apartment to another. I have since found out that my contract is expired and I have been charged a variable rate despite the fact that I set up a new 12 month contract that should last until June 2022. Don’t bother trying to call their customer service phone number because it is rare that they answer.
Update - customer service called to correct the situation, but there's still a $150 bill on my account. There is a misleading termination fee $150 scam at the end of the contract term. They send you an email saying the contract is ending, but not specific to when the contract ends in the email. There's no problems charging you a termination fee with misleading communications. $150 Termination fee applies because you took action to switch companies thinking that action is required from the email. This is a profit center charging customers who are looking to switch at the end of term. The email, website, information provided is UNCLEAR and not specific to contract term ending, unless you go out of the way to find the contract date through multiple clicks and layers in fine print, and not sent together with the email communications received. The renewal at higher rates is easy to navigate, but the switching of services at the end of term is very misleading. This vital information must be too hard to communicate front and center on the email/website: CONTRACT ENDS 1/1/2022. RENEW or SWITCH BY 1/10/2022 or go month to month.
Phillip from customer service showed true dedication. He was so kind and even called me back to let me know that he was able to push my activation day to a later date from my initial date request.
Tried to sign up today because my current contract is expiring with another company. They want you sign up for auto-pay on a credit card. This is most stupid thing in busy today. Never will I do auto-pay. The only auto-pay is on loan payments with bank you have accounts with.
This a a rip off...... do not get this........specially if you have solar panels! The more you produce the higher your rate goes they totally rip you off!
They overcharged for power and refuse to make it right. Avoid.
Started out great with the solar buyback program but 8 months later and they charge you a guaranteed rate when you have to pay for grid power but fluctuate with their buyback Started with. 05 then went down to a .029 during winter. Didn't have a an electric bill for 6 months and forgot I had auto pay and got the first bill for 190 dollars which I sent payment to them. They sent me an embarrassing email telling me I had auto pay but cashed the check without taking anything off the next bill. I'm stuck with this rip off solar power buyback and now know why many don't have solar as I wouldn't have done it if I knew this was what happens when you get it. I will be looking for another electric company when this long contract is over.
I switched from another company to MP2 Shell Energy in February 2023 and I disconnected the service the second week of March. I have an awesome system with solar panels that produces enough power to keep my Ranch going with autonomy. This guys hit me with a bill that I normally get only in August and they gave me 1% credit only for what the system produced. On top of that I was charged the 150$ for early contract termination fee. Absolutely dishonest. I thought that I had read all the T's and C's very well but they get you with the distribution charges. Absolute crooks. Stay away!!! In all I paid the equivalent to 6 months worth of charges with my previous and now current provider for just 5 weeks of service with these guys! Stay away and run. Trying to file a complain with the right commission for the State and also with Solar Panel Owners Groups to make sure this doesnt happen to anybody else.
Buyer Beware. How is it possible to have the power to choose when an electric company claims to have a rate of 13.5pkwh which seems like the lowest at this time. Yet, when you look at the fine print its really 23 pkwh. I called a representative and not only was she unprofessional, but you could tell that she clearly distracted. It sounded like she was at home.
We recently installed a Tesla solar roof and Powerwalls. I was very excited to have a plan that credited us for excess power generation. They do have some preferred plans for Tesla customers that are quite good. Unfortunately, their customer service experience is extremely frustrating. After hours, they are using a call center and the English is marginal at best and they don’t really have the ability to help you with your account. Virtually everyone I have talked to is not a primary English speaker and it is painfully slow. They are also never able to resolve your issue with a single phone call. I had to call multiple times and wait on hold and call back multiple times before I could successfully renew our plan to the new Tesla plan. The process was about 10 times more complicated and time intensive than it needed to be. Even though I was doing a five-year renewal, the new plan does not start until the old contract expires. I am giving serious consideration to canceling this contract purely due to the customer service experience.
They started by charging a fair price for my first month, then my bill more than tripled in the second month. Customer service was rude, disrespectful and did not at all resolve the issue. Now I am locked into a contract with them with a hefty cancellation fee. Whatever you do, do not sign up with them for your electricity.
Called MP2 today. Talked to Maurice and I feel lucky to have talked to this angel in human form. I was thoroughly, welcomingly guided through my decision. He was positive and educating in a way that was so comforting. I feel like I could have been invited to dinner by Maurice just as much as signing up for a new Energy contract. And as we all know these contracts are cumbersome and pain filled as energy costs have risen so dramatically. Anyhow, it was a great experience and I am happy to have signed with this company who is supported by this man.
Their website has not worked for over 6 months. their customer service is unreachable. i have a two year service for electricity from them and there is no way to connect with them. absolutely disappointed by their lack of service. they should be out of business.
I have had this 'service' since last Fall. Their TDU fees comprise the majority of the bill I pay. I have a great solar power system, and kick out over a mW of energy per month. Customer service is U S E L E S S! The ones I spoke with are not native English speakers, and in the background I hear them talking in Hindi or Pashto. I have not received my billing invoice delivered via email at all for the month of August. My output was 1.424 mW. No hint of usage on my account at their website. I have called at least 4 times, and have only gotten form letters in return. I hope more solar power enterprises get into the renewables marketplace, so I can drop this company. They are not performing to industry standard. Absurd! UPDATE 11/17/2022 After not receiving a Billing Invoice from MP2Energy for over 3 months, I got an email from MP2Energy stating that they were changing to a new 'system', and that numerous clients did not get their bills sent to them. So I got shafted by them, and had to pay for a 3 month stretch of using their electricity. Mind you the real electric usage was $3.67, BUT THEIR POCKET PICKING CHARGES aka TDU 'delivery' charges were a total robbery of $106.41 and total taxes of $11.17. I will be searching for a more honest, and reliable, electric seller than these bozos!
poor pricing for solar panels owners - they will convert your generated kWh into $$ at wholesale rate (which is typically pennies) and then credit you these $$ against your bill which would be at market rate/kWh
terrible customer service. Asked for a manager to call me back waited a week called back and they are telling me i have to wait another 48 hours. They let anyone open an account if they have a social security #. No security checks. Had some one open an account under my name a racked up thousands. Just terrible.
Absolutely crooks! I paid for service on Friday, representative said power would be here in 2 hours. Absolutely no power the entire weekend and I'm guessing none on Monday. Dishonest corporation to only take your money. Oncor has no connect order after my payment early Friday and you can't be reached. This is POWER for heating, for food, for lights, for living. And you failed to place my connect order while you are closed for business hours. You are a completely useless company there to only get money without actually providing any direct service. STAY AWAY!!! Update. I went the ENTIRE New Years weekend without power and they are closed today (1/2)!! Unbelievable! I had to rent a hotel room just to have light and heat!
Absolutely terrible. Our power has been turned and we have been on hold for over 2 hours and nothing. We have emailed and called and no one is responding. Worst customer service I have ever seen.
The customer service representatives barely speak English and they sound like they are reading from a script. I am an existing residential customer. When I called to switch to the lower rate published on Power to Choose, I was told that MP2 wouldn’t switch me to a lower rate. The representative couldn’t explain why, other than saying, “We don’t do that.” This company obviously does not care about retaining customers who are in good standing.
Terrible. Impossible to get a hold of.
The website is impossible to get to! So frustrating.....
Zero stars. Loyalty means nothing. I've been a loyal customer for years and this has been the only electric company I have done business with. The company has changed ownership twice and I have never been late on bills or given them any trouble. Until recently when they stole $400+ from me for one month of electricity (my usual bill is approx $100+-) their reason is because I lapsed my contract (unbeknownst to me)and even after a concerted effort to to rectify the situation which included me renewing the contract they told me basically that they had to charge me the arbitrary amount because of the lapse and because ERCOT sets the amount. So the company that couldn't keep the grid up during the freeze is to blame. If I recall I still payed my electricity during the freeze if not a higher amount then. So the company victim blames and passes the blame when that fails. No respect for the years of no issues from me. I will have to pay an additional 400+ for the upcoming bill cycle as well. Thats about the price of 8 months of electricity for 2 months. It's extremely predatory. What should I expect from a mega corporation that profits off of death and destruction?
Our mission is to provide accurate and helpful data and content to help you make an informed decision when comparing energy providers.
Plans and Rates:
We review all available plans from every licensed energy provider. Then we rank the lowest available rate from each provider. Providers then receive a rating based on what percentile their lowest plan ranks.
For example, Provider A has the 3rd lowest-priced plan, while Provider B has the 45th lowest-priced plan out of 46 providers who submitted plans to PUC. Provider A will have a rating of 5, while Provider B will have a rating of 1.
Customer Service:
We scrape online reviews from Google, Yelp, BBB, and Trust Pilot to determine what customers are saying about the provider. The rating reflects the aggregate of all online reviews.
Renewable Options:
The rating system is based on the availability of renewable energy options. A 5-star rating is awarded to entities that offer a fully renewable option, signifying 100% renewable energy usage. A 4-star rating is given to those that provide a mix of energy sources, with more than 50% coming from renewable sources. Entities with renewable energy options exceeding the state average of 31.1% receive a 3-star rating, while those offering less than 31.1% renewable options are rated with 2 stars. Lastly, a 1-star rating is assigned to those with no renewable energy options, indicating a lack of commitment to sustainable energy practices.
PUC Rating:
The Public Utility Commission publishes a rating for each provider based on the number of formal complaints filed against the provider in comparison to how many customers they have.
For example, a provider with 10 formal complaints out of 10,000 customers would have a 1-star rating whereas a provider with 10 complaints and 1,000,000 customers would have a 5-star rating.
The GridHacker rating uses a weighted average that prioritizes rates and customer service over renewable options and PUC rating. We do this because we feel that for most customers price and service are the two most important factors when they are shopping for an electricity plan.
